A pair of dishes with a rare pattern

These two small but heavy Chinese dishes from the early 20th century have an irregular oval shape. Hand-painted with a blue and white pattern of convolculus vines, generally differentiated internally by vines connecting with large, medium and small flowers. At the top of the dish there is a 2-centimeter ornament along the entire diameter. On the reverse side there is a blue stripe along the top edge and the stamp Qianlong Nian Zhi – “Qianlong Period Make”. This mark was used in China from the early to mid-20th century.

Both dishes were cast in the same batch and have a common defect, consisting of an irregularly shaped depression on the back side, in the same place. But hand painting was done by different artists, and this is noticeable in the drawings. One has a denser design with more flowers and vines, while the other has more white space.
